Water pump & pipes in Akoura
Focus Area
Water & Irrigation
Local Partners
Budget
$10,150
Geographic Scope
Baskenta, Mount Lebanon
Beneficiaries
200 farmers

This project helps farmers to lower production costs and save time through the introduction of electrical tree cutters. Using traditional (manual) cutters costs the farmers $60 per day and keeps productivity low. Several farmers will implement the project, and have already been trained to use the machinery. The average lifespan of the machines, which can be used for many types of fruit and vegetable but will mainly be used in Baskenta for apples, pears, apricots and cherries, is 5-7 years.

The cooperative also runs irrigation and beekeeping projects. This is the second time SEAL has supported Baskenta Cooperative, after the construction of waterpipes in 2010.

SEAL will purchase 7 cutting machines at a cost of $1,450 each.

This project is a part of SEAL’s IRRIGATION NETWORK program, which digs wells and installs irrigation systems throughout Lebanon.
